MY STORY

After a lifelong involvement, and over a decade of working as a performance analyst in a variety of professional sports, founder Gemma Broad was ready for a change...

In 2014, I moved out to New Zealand (the country of my birth) looking for an adventure and found myself living and working in an old Homestead on the North Island, helping to renovate and restore the Homestead and its grounds.

It reignited my passion for interiors and it was during studying for my diploma in Interior Design that the upholstery module really grabbed my heart.

On returning to the UK in 2017, I joined a local upholstery class and having fallen in love with the craft, subsequently began my training at the UK's leading modern upholstery school, The Ministry of Upholstery in Manchester.

During this time, I developed my skills and ideas to align my sporting, environmental and interior passions into a business and Embrace Bespoke was born.

Being a sustainable business is incredibly important to me and everything here is done with consideration for the environmental impact. We only have one Earth and the current rate of mass consumption is causing irreversible damage. We all have the power to make positive changes in our daily lives and with our buying power.

Below are a few of the steps I am taking as a small business owner:

  • My workshop is powered by 100% green energy

  • The bespoke, individual made-to-order process ensures that there is minimal waste in production and I don't carry excess stock

  • Any waste that is created, I look to reuse, recycle or donate

  • All new furniture frames are made using wood sourced from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified forests, meaning that it is sustainably produced and managed responsibly.

  • I use local, British suppliers to minimise the carbon footprint

  • I take care to research the origins of the products and supplies I use to ensure my purchasing decisions align with my sustainable beliefs.

If you're considering having your furniture repaired and reupholstered then you are already making a positive decision to help preserve raw materials and reduce waste. So let me help you to create something you'll love for years to come.
